I realize that. And my #1 was to just yank the
function. mysql_change_user() would be useful to just about exactly 0
people if it could only act on non-persistent connections.
The whole purpose of the change_user() function and why Monty added it to
MySQL was to allow people to use persistent connections on a shared
server. The change_user() function would be called implicitly on a
mysql_pconnect() so even a site with 1000 different mysql users accessing
different databases could re-use a single persistent mysql connection.
The user-level mysql_change_user() function I put in isn't all that
useful, but I wanted to test that it worked and figured it didn't hurt to
give people access to it. The useful part is integrating it into
pconnect.
I like the approach of simply removing the username/password from the
hashed-details and always doing a change_user() on a pconnect. That
shouldn't be hard to do and I will take a whack at it today.
