The *_ex functions should only be used if you don't change the zval
(parameters).
For example the following code is incorrect:
convert_to_long_ex(param);
(*param)->value.lval = 2;
The following is fine:
convert_to_long_ex(param);
id = (*param)->value.lval;
Please don't convert to *_ex before you're actually sure how to do it. We
don't want to break things now.
You also have to move to zend_get_parameters_ex() and, yes, you must use
zval **.
