I am no gdb/strace developer, but I can at least say that PHP 3.0.xx
worked fine, and PHP 4.0.0 didn't, with the exact same configuration.
By the way, I am not the guy with 60 instances of Apache, but my FreeBSD
machine still did have high loads or 10-20, whereas it never used to cross
the boundaries of 1!!
I might recompile all necessary components, IMAP, LDAP, MySQL, gd,
FreeType and others, and then to compile Apache/PHP and see if it solves
the problem. You may look at problem #4796 to know the situation of my
case.
