Has it ever been considered that it may be time to restructure the PHP
Group, if nothing else than bringing in some new blood?
I think it's something we should consider. From what Joey wrote it sounds as if the PHP Group is perceived as something *above* php-dev in the community. I don't think this is a good thing and therefore most discussions (forget the current one) are held on php-dev. The PHP Group does mostly administrative stuff so maybe we could just have something like a PHP UNIX system group, a PHP license group, a PHP web group and so on. Just an idea. I haven't thought about it too much and I've just opened my eyes from sleep :)

Sascha, don't come to conclusions too quickly if you do want to improve

Andi, have you ever considered that your approach of
"guiding" other people is not appreciated?
Yes. That is what a guide is. He can try and guide you but it doesn't mean
you have to appreciate the guidance nor take the advice. You are free to
ignore whatever I write.
Anyway, I think right now the easiest thing for us to do is to move to re2c
without your sources (it should be relatively trivial as it's just a
scanner and we wrote the original regex's) and allow for better
communication to address the issues that were raised (both the team issues
and the license issues) when things cool down a bit.
I don't particularly like Andre's suggestion of keeping everything on
group@ because I find that as time has gone by there are many active
contributors on php-dev@ who have a right to be more involved in PHP.
Actually I often find people in the community who are more involved in PHP
than some on the PHP Group. So as I mentioned, it should be in a more
diplomatic and constructive manner but I definitely think that the whole
"PHP Group is sacred" way is not the right way. I think the PHP developers
& community have a lot of great ideas and great inputs (even if some of
these are not things I necessarily agree with) and we should probably
adjust our whole working mechanism.
