If not already mentioned:
o have a proper bundling system for ext/*, that means: a versioning
scheme for extensions and the possibility to use i.e. ext/socket
Vx.y with PHP V >= a.b.c (had the problems last year where ext/socket
worked with 4.0.1, was broken in 4.0.2-4.0.3 (IIRC) and finally worked
again in 4.0.4, so it was not possible to update to 4.0.2 without
loosing socket-Support which was needed by some modules of the PHP
application)
[as proposed on the Q&A panel on last year's PHP conference]
If I'm not wrong, this would make it easier to update to new
PHP versions and easier to update specific extensions. I'm not
sure if it's possible to implement, but this would be a nice
feature many people would like to see in PHP5.
