Compatibility is king. strlen() returns the number of bytes, has been for at least 5 years. You just can't change that because the name is slightly better or slightly worse. Anyway, I suggest we get back to this issue when it's a little more relevant. There are plenty of other discussions we can fight over before we have to get around to this :) Zeev
