people quote way too much. does anyone actually read the quotes? i don't
want to reread something i already read. just get to the point. if someone
contradicts themselves then quote them.

This is why I advocate snipping - the removal of all but the relevant
portion of the e-mail that you are responding to and marking it clearly. It
shortens the message and hopefully provides focus.
