The only thing the extension does is let apache know what to do with it.
Chances are your ISP will have the PHP4 engine parse .php3 files as well.
Unless your ISP does some funky stuff and your scripts stop working
altogether, you should be ok.
If they don't have PHP4 parse .php3 files, ask them what extension to have
PHP4 parse, rename your .php3 files to .php4 and you should be ok...you
might get an error or two if your using some antiquated functions that PHP4
doesn't support though. <g>
