I'll add that after investigating some more with wget it looks like there's no real way out of there: you get the files correctly dumped, but then the links are useless. One should perform some search-and-replace magic to assign matching names to files and in links. Frankly, I do not know if this is just an over-bloated, patched solution or a way to go. The matter is non-trivial, as someone pointed out. I'll search around on the net for some of the PHP libs and snippets which do HTTP and see if somebody else had at least a glimpse of this very same problem.
If you can get access to a Mac, try out Web Devil. It's the only one I've found that will recreate everything on the site in the same directory structure, keeps links intact, download all images, etc. <http://www.chaoticsoftware.com/> cheers, Richard
