This thread has touched on a topic that we (along with others I'm sure) are trying to address. phorum.org is good, vbulletin.com looks good too, as does ubb and other projects. The main issue we've had with all of them (I might get corrected here, but it's an impression after having installed a couple) is that they're made to do one thing, but not terribly integratable with other stuff. For example, UBB allows people to create logins/profiles, etc., but I as a developer can't easily integrate that profile info into other areas of my site. If it can be done, great - but I did say 'easily'. I've not seen it as a big topic of conversation on the support boards I've read. People say they 'hacked' something together - I'd prefer a more structured framework upon which to rest my forums, calendars, general apps, etc. Am I missing something? We're 'reinventing the wheel' yet again with our own internal app framework, but it seems many others are/were too - binarycloud and freeenergy are two with snazzy names, but I'm sure others are out there as well - I guess phpgroupware would fall into that category as well. Any thoughts on this?
