You're wrong.
XML provides an important link between apps that have nothing whatsoever
in common. They can be using different databases, OS's, and programming
languages, and XML will be just as easy to work with as it would be if
everything in the world ran the same software.
Sure, you could write your own flat files with their own custom structure,
and tell everybody how to parse it, but XML has removed that step. As a
result, if you write your app to use XML, it will always be useful,
automatically, by any platform that supports XML. So I ask, why on
earth would you still want to create your own custom format when XML is
there, powerful, and rapidly becoming a standard?
