I think you are using XML for the wrong purposes. XML has not been invented to replace a Database. It is also not good for a large amount of data. PLEASE NOTE: This is all my own opinion. I see the strength of XML being communicating between applications, whether it be internal or B2B etc. My reasons for this are: 1. It's not a proprietary format 2. It is easy to get your hands on an XML parser 3. When/If XML Schemas become a standard, this gives alot of information about what each element is that you are receiving is and allows you to validate the XML. I currently have 2 applications that need to transmit and receive proprietary format strings for other external applications. One uses it's own proprietary format with headers/footers etc. The other uses CSV format and I have to count how many elements are returned and then work out what each element relates to. The number of items received is not always the same. With XML, you can give each element a name, hence no need for guess work. This is why I think XML will be good for me in relation to comms between apps. > -----Original Message----- > From: Sebastian Stadtlich [mailto:Stadtlich@mediaworx.com] > Sent: Wednesday, 22 November 2000 19:51 > To: 'phpmailing' > Subject: AW: [PHP] What's your call on XML? > > > Forget about XML... it sucks... > right now i can't imagine one Projekt on this earth that would need XML. > don't ever think about replacing your database with XML-Files. > one thing that XML clains to be perfect in is in exchanging data files... > what's wrong with a SQL-Dump or a textfile which structure you know?
