We've done projects in asp, jsp, php, perl, and cf, on NT & 'nix platforms, to
name a few. Here's what experience tells us:
1. The only one with any noticable performance issues is ColdFusion. The
rest are all about the same, especially since most of the time is spent
waiting on I/O anyway.
2. The only ones that seem to require "beefy" servers are CF, ASP, and
PHP-NT.
3. Most of us found that we were constantly refering to the docs for ASP,CF,
and PHP. But we could code perl, jsp, and C without opening the docs much.
This is probably due to the fact that all of those can be pre-checked
(compiled or 'perl -c'), so errors were caught faster. (Yes, yes, I'm sure
many of you on this list can code php without referencing the docs. More
power to you.)
