Well, I offer no advice but I can confirm the problem you're having. I have
a control panel I'm building and it's under SSL using Apache+Mod_ssl, PHP
4.0.1. It's a login screen.
I get to the page and the session is created but no variables are
registered. After posting the username and password a new session is
created. Even if I send the session ID along and do session_id($PHPSESSID)
to assign the original ID to the session, another session is STILL created.
Then on the third page, yet another ID is created even though I forcibly set
it to the proper one. And, in my /tmp directory there are several blank
session files.
