I'll throw our hat into this ring as well...
We did a few performance tests ASP v PHP a couple months back,
and put the results up at http://www.tapinternet.com/bench.php3
Biggest bottleneck was, I think, the SQL7 server, as it normally
logs all activity. This alone seems to slow it down, especially writing.
Slow being relative of course - it's not a bad database, and is good
for many things. It just happens that in our experience, MySQL
is faster for most *web* projects.
