I think this is how things did/would work:
The callback for connect called on a button might have looked like this:
$button->connect('clicked', 'buttonClicked');
function buttonClicked($widget) {}
The callback for connect_object called on button a might have looked like this:
$button->connect_object('clicked', 'buttonClicked');
function buttonClicked() {}
The callback for connect_replace called on button a might look like this:
$button->connect_replace('clicked', 'buttonClicked', $otherButton);
function buttonClicked($otherWidget) {}

No, it's probably me that's confused :) I'm not good when it comes to discussing things theoretically rather than in practical terms. So what are you saying, Andrei - connect_simple() will _only_ pass user data, and connect_replace() will act as connect_object() did? If so we do need connect_replace().... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Scott Mattocks" <scott@crisscott.com> To: "Steph" <steph@zend.com> Cc: "Andrei Zmievski" <andrei@gravitonic.com>; "PHP DEV" <php-gtk-dev@lists.php.net> Sent: Friday, October 14, 2005 6:29 PM Subject: Re: [PHP-GTK-DEV] Connection methods-- Scott Mattocks scott@crisscott.com http://www.crisscott.com http://pear.php.net/user/scottmattocksI thought connect_object only leaves out the widget that fired the signal. If other things are passed like an event or a container/child widget/object those were still passed. I could just be really confused at this point. Does that answer your question? -Andrei On Oct 14, 2005, at 8:25 AM, Steph wrote:It depends on whether connect_simple() allows user args in the way that connect_object() did... assuming it does, this would seem to be over the top. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Andrei Zmievski" <andrei@gravitonic.com> To: "PHP DEV" <php-gtk-dev@lists.php.net> Sent: Friday, October 14, 2005 5:05 AM Subject: [PHP-GTK-DEV] Connection methods-- PHP-GTK Development Mailing List (http://gtk.php.net/) To unsubscribe, visit: http://www.php.net/unsub.phpI've implemented the new connection method connect_simple() and deprecated connect_object(), which will still work but issue a notice. Now, do we really need connect_replace()? This is the method that will replace the signal widget parameter with a user supplied one, e.g.: $drawing_area->connect_replace('button_press_event', 'replace', $window, array(1,2)); function replace($myparam, $event, $userarg) { /* $myparam is $window and $userarg is array(1,2) */ } Is this useful at all? -Andrei -- PHP-GTK Development Mailing List (http://gtk.php.net/) To unsubscribe, visit: http://www.php.net/unsub.php
