I've got to be doing something fundamentally wrong here, but reading docs and looking at examples and even running them doesn't seem to help. Can anybody point me to a reference for a good clean way to make things look like I want? Or tell me where I'm going wrong?I have yet to see a tutorial that tells anyone how to pack widgets correctly. Everyone just throws them into a container and doesn't worry too much about layout. Take a look at the pack_start() manual page. http://gtk.php.net/manual/en/gtk.gtkbox.method.pack_start.php By default, if you pack a widget it will expand to fill up all the space available to it in the container. There are three other parameters to pack_start() besides the widget that you are packing. Setting those three parameters properly will allow you to control the size of your widgets much more easily. -- Scott Mattocks scott@crisscott.com http://www.crisscott.com http://pear.php.net/user/scottmattocks
