Apache and PHP run best on Unix based servers so most of the installation
and scripts are made to that environment. Windows, while it is a great
desktop (many applications and ease of installation) has some very real
drawbacks when it comes to hosting web servers. I have Windows 2K servers
and Linux servers, getting Apache to run on Windows has always been an issue
as not all the modules that can be loaded with Apache work with the Windows
OS. If you want a real awaking try installing Horde on Windows.... I
figured it out then put-up a Linux server just for Horde.
-- Besides, I really wanted to learn how to 'build' apache from scratch!

Subject: Re: [PHP-INST] Re Problem with XP Apachi and PHP install - RESOLVED
Hi All,
I found the problem to be in the missing entry of doc_root in php.ini.
I found this after doing a walkthrough of a suggestion of path changes made
by Kevin Angus (thanks Kevin).
About a year ago, I started to play with PHP and dropped it cold as it
wasn't working for me back then
(install that is). This time, I'm forced to have it installed as I need to
get the work done at the end of the day.
I don't understand why is it that if it is so obvious that many are just
using basic defaults of
Apache (finally I'm spelling that one right:-) ) with basic defaults of PHP,
why not make a set of
already made out of the box default options?
I'll bet there are a few more people out there that are just stuck like I
am, and the instructions of
copying dll's, and making careful updates which are going to be almost the
same for most starting out
users, are just driving them away.
Just my 2 cents on that.
Thanks again for everybody on thier suggestions.
-Alon.

Subject: [PHP-INST] Re Problem with XP Apachi and PHP install - MORE INFO
I FORGOT TO MENTION THE VERSION!!
php-4.3.1-Win32.zip
apache_1.3.27-win32-x86-no_src.msi
AND I've tried to implement it as was suggested by Oleg:
php4apache.dll
php4isapi.dll
php4ts.dll
copy this files to "modules" dir in the apache dir.
httpd.conf
LoadModule php4_module modules/php4apache.dll
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .phtml
BUT IT DIDN'T WORK..:-((
//**************************************************************************
*********************8
Simple install is not working for me.
System credentials:
P4 1.5Ghz
RAM 256MB
30GB of Free HD Space
WinXP Professional
I just d/l Apachi, PHP and mySQL
I installed Apachi and tested it with the 'test configuration' utility and
it is producing 'Syntax OK' msg.
PHP is set to c:\php
I copied:
php4apache.dll
php4isapi.dll
php4ts.dll
php.ini
to: C:\WINDOWS\system32
Here is a part of the httpd.conf of Apachi (I included few lines from above
and below the code so
you can tell where it is located in the file). I made two separate entry
locations:
HERE IS THE FIRST LOCATION:
AddModule mod_so.c
AddModule mod_setenvif.c
#ALON SOLELL
LoadModule php4_module C:\WINDOWS\system32\php4apache.dll
#
# ExtendedStatus controls whether Apache will generate "full" status
# information (ExtendedStatus On) or just basic information (ExtendedStatus
# Off) when the "server-status" handler is called. The default is Off.
#
#ExtendedStatus On
HERE IS THE SECOND LOCATION:
#
# To use server-parsed HTML files
#
#AddType text/html .shtml
#AddHandler server-parsed .shtml
# ALON SOLELL
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .phtml
AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps
#
# Uncomment the following line to enable Apache's send-asis HTTP file
# feature
#
#AddHandler send-as-is asis
The problem that I encounter is:
http://localhost/0info.php
is producing the acutal code:
<?php
phpinfo();
?>and does not show the PHP Credentials.
I have not made any changes to php.in as of yet.
I'm lost on anything beyond that. Please help me to get this thing going.
Thanks,
-Alon.
