Hi Phil,
thanks for the tips... tough day for the Yorkshire lads at St. James', eh?
anyway, just wanted to give you some info. My machine was just rebuilt with a fresh Win 98
2nd edition about 3 weeks ago - with not many programs installed at all since then. And,
Moriarty's problem was ME, mine was 98 as stated.
I don't know what was causing the "HTTP 500 - Internal Server Error" or if thats what
others that
you describe were getting also. I know that the install documentation was VERY SPARSE for
Win 98 install and subsequent testing to see what works.
Well, under PWS and after reading the KBase, I went to the EasyInstaller for 4.0.3, but that
doesn't really work for me. I was still left with Server Error 500s. Its a bit confusing
because the
EasyInstall docs refer to PHP.exe instead of the newer ISAPI dll, so a bit confusing when trying
to debug. Under the pulldown "Apache - Install", the directions are for CGI, not ISAPI.
I have
since switched to Apache/Win32 because in trying to get all this working with PWS 4.0, one of
the suggestions was to deinstall everything and start over. I did that, but now my PWS will not
reinstall. It gets a GPF when trying to register the Microsoft Transaction Server. I tried it
multiple times and read MS kbase crap but to no avail. So, I've taken the path of least
resistance and gone to apache, but with basically the same results. Just an hour ago, I still got
HTTP 500s with the 4.0.3 from EasyInstaller.
(Well, after enough times through the installs, some things start making more sense. I
remember when I 1st installed FISHCART-PHP. The install doc was DAMN confusing - but after
doing it three times it was more clear and a 4th install could be done very easily.)
So, I've blown off using the EasyInstaller and have rebooted, cleaned, uninstalled, etc and
freshly
loaded 4.0.4. Set it up for the DLL and edited the PHP.INI. BTW, I did check and found I
DID NOT have a bunch of scriptmaps inthe registry... in fact after the EasyInstaller was removed,
the w3svc section wasn't even there. On 4.0.4, I put my path in the .reg file and manually
applied it.
************** Here's a bit of a thorn in my side - At least in the easy installer for 4.0.3,
he gave
you a damn program to test the installation with. (of course, it disappeared when I de-installed
his version.) Just imagine a newbie with the 4.0.4 version and no bloody program to even test
with - bollocks!
OK, now when I run a simple program, I get valid HTML output (so PHP is working now), but
then this:
APACHE caused an invalid page fault in
module PHP4TS.DLL at 0177:008e49da.
I only have one copy of that file in my PATH, in Windows/System. Its the Dec 20 version, 984k.
It doesn't make the apache window shut down, nor does it log an error message, so I guess
I'm
still back at square one. It put this ALERT in the log - mind the time - i refreshed my browser
window 3 times.
