I was trying to install php with external MySQL support, not with the built-in, but the configure
script couldn't find the library files for mysql:
./configure --with-apxs2 --with-regex --with-mysql=/usr/lib/mysql
checking return type of qsort... (cached) void
configure: error: Cannot find header files under /usr/lib/mysql
--with-mysql=/usr/include/mysql/ and /usr/local/lib/mysql/ got the same problems.
The solution was the following: --with-mysql=/usr

I just thought this would be useful for someone trying ti rip out that built-in mysql.
