I have no problem with what's written. Since php 4.3, everything compiles
without problem. I usually get rid of what Apple installed by default in the
filesystem as I prefer to have everything under /usr/local. Apple install
phpize and stuff in /usr/bin AFAIR.
Apple doesn't install the php cli by default.
So if user is confident enough with the command-line, I would recommend
compiling PHP himself as the .so that is proposed on entropy.ch is stuffed
with lots of extensions one might not use and the cli has to be downloaded
separately (which means they might not be the same versions).
When compiling, if PEAR is needed, just add --enable-cli to the configure
options. Then run go-pear as usual or --enable-pear.
Really, installing PHP 4.3 with PEAR on OSX is trivial. And OSX is a great
platform to develop in PHP if you use the December Apple Developer Tools
(with PHP syntax coloring support and CVS) or BBEDIT.

I think it works like in any other unix. OSX is FreeBSD based. You can use
setenv if you have tcsh (default shell in OSX but others are available).
What else ?.. Well, buy yourself a Powerbook Titanium and feel the power ;)
