Hi,
I agree, that we need a better voting system than the current, but I
disagree with the following:
> The whole voting session for Stream_Var took one afternoon,
> that's not enough if you really want to review the code and
> not only vote for the idea like some did (see the mail archive).
The voting session took about 24 hours that's more than some other
packages had.
Som people also reviewed the code and I can assure you that the code is
OK, it's not the first package I released in PEAR and I worked on
several other open source projects.
> Also, when people like Wez and Derick vote -1, I think it
> might be useful to take a bit more time before committing the
> package. I am not sure those -1 were counted in the final count.
First, they did not vote -1, Wez voted -0 (whatever he wanted to say
with this) and Derrick sees no use for this package.
Second, since when do votes by 'people like Wez and Derick' count more
than votes by 'people like Greg and Davey'. I know that Wez developed
the streams API, but if other people have use for this package I can't
see, why it shouldn't be released and why Wez' vote should count more
than the others. If you start counting votes differently, who decides
which how to divide the developers into A-grade and B-grade pear-devs?
If you want to remove this package do so. I don't care if it's in PEAR,
I can easily release it on my site www.php-tools.net, as there are no
dependencies.
I don't want to start another discussion about the package proposal
process, as we all know it's total rubbish right now, but it makes it
difficult if you really want to release new packages. I proposed
XML_WDDX about two weeks ago and only got one response by Alan, so when
this time several people responded positively within one day, I thought
it's OK to release the package, as there are no official rules on
pear.php.net on how long the discussion has to be. With most of the
packages I released I got some imidiate answers and after a day nobody
else reacted on the proposal...
Best regards,
Stephan
