Hi again ;)
Please read the docs, again and again :-)) No, GPL is incompatible as explained. LGPL says that you may use "the library" (okay, here it's plain php-source - so maybe this should be "the class") without modifications. And you may use LGPL-stuff even in commercial projects: a) as long as you indicate where the LGPL'ed part can be obtained from (no problem with that when using pear) b) you don't make changes to the LGPL'ed part If you make changes to the LGPL'ed part the general GPL-things like "you have to contribute it back to the community" etc. apply. (Please correct me if I'm wrong in some part - but that's my understanding of LGPL in connection with PEAR.)
you're basically right, except the "you have to contribute it back" part (L)GPL doesn't force you to give the changes back to the community. It just says, that if you redestribute (L)GPL code, you have to provide an easy access to the sources for all who got the "binary" from you. And the code still has to be (L)GPL or a compatible license. So, basically you can change and sell a (L)GPL programm for big bucks and you're not forced to release the code to the public, but just to the guy who bought it. The problem is, he can then do whatever he wants with the code (under the terms of GPL) and contribute it back to the community ,) chregu
