As I tried to explain, it depends on Apache/htpasswd not PHP.
PHP's md5-crypt passwds look like $1$.....
but htpasswds md5 passwds look like $apr1$....
and I couldn't do anything to 'emulate' that.
This 'apr' is for 'Apache Portable Runtime' I think...
