I would prefer a PEAR_Error, which is the standard in PEAR for most package.
Also, you might want to check out my Validate_Finance_Creditcard package
to use as a dummy driver (and for validating CC information prior to
accessing the gateway).
Having a dummy driver would be good for those who do offline processing.
It would be forward compatible to linkpoint, authorize.net, etc. They
would just switch dummy with linkpoint in the factory.
