ITX multiple files example?

i'm trying to figure out how to use separate template files as blocks within
the global template with ITX.
i've been perusing the source, and haven't yet figured it out. there's a
mention of it on Ulf's site, but the PHPDOC comments are cryptic.
anyone have an idea or example?
