yes, but /usr/ is meant for debian-packaged files
/usr/local/ for localy compiled/installed files.
my problem is that pear does not allow users (say debian admins/roots if you
prefer) to install their local PEAR package that are not packaged in
debian, without risking to interfer with debian packages.
and that's bad
