Yes I think indenting should be a must
Anything else is really up to the developer imho
But if the core people disagree (going by the comment that was made
about irc discussions) then is this discussion not sort of pointless?
Anyways stuff like tab/spaces is nasty because it's a thing you have to
configure in your editor ... so yes it can turn contributors off but it
can also turn big fixers and code reviewers off
I do prefer tab over 4-spaces though. But that is personal taste.
