Pablo Fischer (http://pear.php.net/user/pfischer) has commented on the proposal for Tools and
Utilities::Linux_Debian_Apt.
Comment:
Some answers:
- There's a similar perl module that uses backports.org as the database
but they do the same, also I think packages.debian.org is more complete
than a backport site.
- I'll take a look in caching.
- It works only for Debian. I'm writing a parser for Packages.gz
(information about all packages in a repository) and a Contents.gz (list
of files of all packages) but I'm having some doubts about how good is it,
cause an official Packages.gz file size is like > 40 MB :-/. And you can
imagine reading 40 MB via inet, locally there's a problem with file size
but reading a remote file there are two problems..
- I don't know how apt4rpm works, if it works with a Packages.gz and
Contents.gz files, then I can add the 'gz' reader/parser.
