Well a quick review of the code shows its about at the same level as Sajax, which is pretty much half-baked from my standpoint. That doesn't mean there is some good code in there but its going to need a lot of design work as well as code updates. So in an PEAR Ajax lib I would put the requirements as: Very good XMLHttpRequest wrapper, possibly with pool support, including status handling etc Supports Async and Sync calls Provides full object mapping through generation of javascript proxies Provides proxyless operation though a simple api remote_call('url','method','params etc) A JSON implementation that supports properally mapping all php values and has been tested against large array and object combinations Support for pluggable JSON since there are c extensions Serialization of Javascript data back to php, either through decoding JSON (have to look at security here) or by using xml It would also be nice to have things like content replacement in the api through that might be best in an add-on package. -josh Stowe, Nola wrote:
Mighty arrogant of you there to ASSUME its *half-baked* Just beside its "new technology" doesn't mean someone knows know how to use it and is using it properly. How do you know how much time Luca has put into this? Actually the technology has been around a very long time as you probably know. I say lets put in in Pear now and BAKE it. -----Original Message----- From: Joshua Eichorn [mailto:josh@bluga.net] Sent: Wednesday, July 13, 2005 12:12 PM To: Lukas Smith Cc: Luca Mariano; pear-dev@lists.php.net Subject: Re: [PEAR-DEV] Re: Ajax PEAR package Lukas Smith wrote:

Hi, I've just rolled out a little php class that makes the creation of Ajax XHTML pages a very easy and quick work. Basically it uses introspection to auto-register avaible methods both on the server side (php) and on the client side (js code working on an XMLHttpRequest object). Since I noticed that there is no PEAR implementation of Ajax specs, what about considering HTML_Ajax?

Just shooting into the dark .. but isnt there some overlap with the recent webservices wdsl generation proposal? regards, Lukas
AJAX is a pretty wide open field in the php world right now, we don't need a half baked implementation in pear. Once your class has been used for awhile and get the kinks worked out we can think about adding it to PEAR. -josh http://blog.joshuaeichorn.com/ajax-resources/library/ (Other libs, and I have about 4 more to add to this list) <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> The information in this email and any attachments may contain confidential information that is intended solely for the attention and use of the named addressee(s).
