This seems rather rudimentary.
The PHP side is basically doing a cross between HTML_Javascript, SOAP
and XMLRPC.
The js code is just wrapping the XMLHttpRequest object with a function
library (OO JS is quite nice you know..)
As it currently stands, the library seems a little pointless.. - the
beauty of AJAX (Although I still hate that acronum), is that you can use
it to retrieve any kind of data (although often XML is easiest). and the
server side actions behave in the same way that standard HTML page
requests come in, hence writing php code that behaves in the same way as
a browser request makes it considerably easier to manage. (Alot easier
to debug that magic RPC calls going on in the background)
As this proposal stands, it's not really solving many issues..
A HTML_JSON or something package may be of some use, to those not
already overwhelmed by the current choices
XML/XMLRPC/SOAP/WDDX/PHPserialize..
A standard Javascript library would be usefull, but that's a whole can
of worms in it's own right... - I develop mostly XUL apps these days..
Why would I want to have MS Bug workaround crap for.... :)

Alan
