Hello,
I would like to formally request that I be added as a lead for
PEAR_Frontend_Web, and Pierre marked as an inactive lead.
I regret to write this message. It has been 1 year and just under 2
months since I initially wrote a message to pear-qa asking for the
ability to make a release to PEAR_Frontend_Web to make it work with PEAR
1.4.x. At the same time, I asked Alan Knowles to allow changes to
PEAR_Frontend_Gtk, which he committed, and then fixed up and released as
PEAR_Frontend_Gtk version 0.4.0 on March 14, 2005 - 11 months ago.
Since that time, Pierre-Alain Joye has insisted that there are some
"other problems" with the implementation, without ever providing
examples, opening bug reports, or doing any work on the code. Instead,
he has repeatedly promised that he would work on it "this weekend" and
then failed to do any work at all. I have also requested to have the
right to do a release of this essential core package from Pierre, but
have been denied that permission for no reason. As an active maintainer
of PEAR, I submit that I am well versed in the features and issues of
the Web frontend. I also have the capability to test this frontend on
linux, OS X, Windows XP Professional with IIS or Apache, and Windows XP
Home with Apache.
I have already spoken to Pierre and asked him to mark himself as
inactive. Pierre is vocally against this action, but has blatantly
refused to do any coding on PEAR_Frontend_Web in the foreseeable future.
At this point, I do not see any other choices.
If the PEAR group sees fit to deny this request, I will
1) gracefully bow out, and turn over the lead status of PEAR,
PEAR_PackageFileManager, Games_Chess, PHP_Parser, and be of no more trouble.
2) gladly assist if asked, with bug fixes in the transition period to
new leadership.
I am always open to reasonable solutions that will result in
PEAR_Frontend_Web being released in a timely manner. In my opinion,
this situation is simply unacceptable, and an embarassment to PEAR as a
project.
Thank you,
Greg Beaver
