How about keep both of them? Advantage of seprating PEAR(PHP script)/PCEL(PHP C module) is bug fix can be released script/module basis. This is huge advantage to make PHP more stable and usable. Base PHP/modules/classes can be released more frequently (more frequent bug fix), since QA needs a lot less efforts. If script/modules are popular enough, provide them with PHP base relase. If user find problem in some script/module download latest script/module one by one. I think someone posted simlar opinion in php-dev before. -- Yasuo OhgakiMaybe someone could explain me the logic to move packages :). Just check out the cvs and see some core (imho) features moved to /pear,andsome very high level (and gadgets) features in /php4/pear. I really do not understand the reason and why now (documentation problem,bc,etc...).I feel the same way since I don't like pear going cpan way. I'd rather see pear as "php standard class library" that is always installed with php so that we can rely that it's there. The alternative is a lot of hassle when you need to install a piece of code that uses several pear classes which IMHO lessens pear's value.
