Benjamin Muskalla thus spake on 2006-05-14 22:43:
Benjamin Muskalla (http://pear.php.net/user/bmuskalla) has initiated the call for votes on Database::DB_eXist. Please review the proposal and give your vote here: http://pear.php.net/pepr/pepr-proposal-show.php?id=303Like I said in a previous comment, I think it worthwhile to allow for the following two future developments: - PHP 4 - XML_RPC driver So we could have the following conceptual hierarchy: XMLDB -> XML database implementations / future abstraction layers |_ eXist (I agree with Jesus - we should keep the original package spelling) |_ SOAP Relational databases and XML databases are really two completely different beasts - I think they can be safely separated at birth, namespace-wise - hence the proposed new XMLDB prefix. My proposal for this package is then: XMLDB_eXist2 allowing such future developments as: XMLDB_eXist (abstraction layer - PHP4) XMLDB_eXist_XML_RPC (which I will undertake as soon as I can find a little time) "eXist2" would be consistent with the naming convention of PHP5 version of eXisting PHP4 packages.
