What incompatibility between SpreadsheetML and streaming do you see ? The current design of Spreadsheet_Excel_Writer does seem to be incompatible with streaming, but I don't see any problem with the XML format itself. However, streaming might require a special "mode of operation". For example, when one of the workbook's worksheets has been closed, it is not possible to write into it anymore. But, within a single worksheet, it seems to be a matter of : <Row> <Cell><Data ss:Type="Number"> 1 </Data></Cell> </Row> <Row> <Cell><Data ss:Type="Number"> 2 </Data></Cell> </Row> ... <Row> <Cell><Data ss:Type="Number"> N </Data></Cell> </Row> There might be some other special conditions when working in streaming mode, but I don't see any major incompatibility. I'm no SpreadsheetML wizard though... A temp file would be a much more heavy workaround. Don't you think ? -- ogBy the way, while you're at it, I must confess that a very bad limitation of Spreadsheet_Excel_Writer is that it needs to load all of the data into memory before rendering. With this XML format I suppose that you could easily implement some sort of buffered streaming, to avoid such memory eating.Streaming, can't do due to the format needs. Writing to a temp file first, perhaps, but I'm not sure it's doable due to the order things need to happen. Will try.
