I hope stig's "vision of PEAR"-paper could clear this, but from my
unterstanding (and the PEAR documentation), PEAR is devided into three
parts: The Core, base classes, pear coding standard. The Extended part:
coding standard compliant PHP/C packages. PECL, repository for php
extensions written in C that do not follow the pear coding standard such
as extension that are moved from php4/ext.
So if Jan's (hi ;) extension follows the pear coding standard, it
belongs to the extended part, otherwise to PECL.
