The only state that should ever be appended, IMHO, is RC# where # is a number starting at 1. I tend to agree with you about the state. It seems like overkill when the word "alpha" is already in the next column. So is 0.1.0 a valid version to start with, or should I head for something like 0.5.0, or 0.1.4 to indicate that there have been 5 feature releases?
This is the first PEAR release, so 0.1.0 makes sense. You're welcome to choose anything < 1.0.0, but I would suggest 0.1.0 just because it's obvious it's a beginning. ;-) -- Justin Patrin
