Evert Pot (http://pear.php.net/user/evert) has commented on the proposal for PHP::PHPRPC.
Comment:
The main advantages are:
* speed
* creating a client is really easy (file_get_contents + unserialize)
* transmit PHP classes and objects over the wire
* very compact compared to SOAP and XML-RPC
A big drive to create this package, is to formalize a standard (e.g.:
PHP-RPC). Like till mentioned, a lot of sites are already starting to
support PHP serialized webservices. So having a standard might allow
generalization of clients.
Also, REST is url/http based.. (e.g.: everything is a resource) whereas
traditional protocols (XML-RPC, SOAP) are RPC based (e.g.: a methodname,
arguments and returned data). This proposal supports both methodologies.
