Fellow PEARs,
Google is taking applications from organisations looking to mentor projects in this year's Summer of Code. I gather we got rejected last year, but I think it might be worth another crack if we can get some good project ideas together.
I'm quite happy to act as the administrator for this. If we go ahead, we'll need someone else to be the backup administrator in case I get hit by a bus (or a train, or any other form of public transport), and that person will need to get a Google account before the application is submitted.
Most importantly, though, if we're going to do this we need to brainstorm potential project ideas. I've started a Wiki page at http://wiki.pear.php.net/index.php/GSoC_2008 for ideas to be collated. The deadline for applying as a mentoring organisation is March 12 -- that is, next Wednesday.
So, feedback welcome, both in terms of (a) whether we should apply, and (b) if so, what project ideas are out there. There's more information on the Summer of Code at http://code.google.com/soc/2008/, for those not familiar with the programme.
Adam
