Not quoting because the discussion has gotten off-track.
While I agree with Jeff that there are better ways to approach the class dependencies in MDB2, my example was not to bring those up. A specific question had been asked as to how an existing package would fit into this new context. My attempt was to address that specific question as to how an existing package's structure might be adapted.
The namespace-package issue is probably the issue with the most ramification facing PEAR2/PHP5.3 right now. Its effects will be felt throughout the PHP community for years. Let's try not to get bogged down in the minutiae of how to better implement an existing package and try to find the solution that gives us the most flex room moving forward while still maintaining some cohesion with the past.
