On Sunday, June 1st, 2008, the election for the next PEAR Group will start. Thus all developers interested in running for a seat in the Group are invited to nominate themselves on the developers mailing list (pear-dev@lists.php.net).I'd like to nominate myself for the PEAR Group. I've spent the last 10 years of my life heavily involved in PHP. The last 4 years I've been a PEAR developer. I'm currently the lead developer on 6 PEAR packages with another 7 publicly available via http://pear.joestump.net. Some other things I think make me highly qualified to be on the PEAR Group include: 1.) A great working relationship with Greg and Helgi, many active PEAR developers (Paul M. Jones, Ian Eure, Travis Swicegood, Josh Eichorn, Michael Gauthier, etc.) along with a few people from PHP internals. 2.) I have experience managing teams of developers. 3.) I've been actively promoting PEAR at Digg and have recruited at least 3 people to create and contribute code to PEAR. At Digg we have an open policy of submitting any loosely coupled library code back to PEAR. I think at last check 6 of 13 developers at Digg are PEAR maintainers and we maintain somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 packages amongst us. 4.) I actively contribute to PEAR and PHP in non-package ways. Greg and I talked through the syntax for the upcoming namespaces, I regularly provide detailed reviews for packages and proposals. I've also submitted bug fixes, bugs, etc. for packages I don't maintain. If anyone has any questions about my experience, background, philosophies, etc. please feel free to ping me off list. Thanks! --Joe
