Hi Till, [I'm cc'ing Pear QA since we seem to be at an impasse] Email does not provide a reliable way of identifying the authors. We are talking about changing a license. I thought my idea [asking authors to add a comment to the bug stating their affirmation] was a tidy little solution since all the authors do have pearweb accounts. I caution against relying on email as a means for the authors to relinquish their rights to the software, and I wouldn't take responsibility for changing the license with only affirmation via email. Thus, it's my opinion that the license should not be changed at this time. Bigger picture... Does anyone know of any pear documentation or pepr proposals which detail procedures or requirements for a license change? Would a short pepr proposal be useful? Then it would be resolved, and the process would be formalized for all future instances. thoughts? -craig -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [PEAR-DEV] Re: [PEAR-BUG] Req #14853 [Bgs->Opn]: Change license from php to (new) bsd From: till <klimpong@gmail.com> To: Craig Constantine <cconstantine@php.net> Date: Sat Apr 4 12:53:50 2009
Hey Craig, it's a lot easier to email people to request a comment via email and then be done with it. And it works too. In the end CC pear-qa@ and it'll be on the Internets for forever and the license change is "legit". No need to make people who don't contribute actively go on the bug tracker. ;-) I know, in a perfect world they would. If you're still missing Kai, I could see if I can find him in Berlin. Let me know. Till On Sat, Apr 4, 2009 at 1:25 PM, Craig Constantine <cconstantine@php.net> wrote:
I disagree with you. The original feature request was posted by a 3rd party. I suggested the methodology of having each author post a comment. We had the conversation about the license via email, and included pear-dev. I also, twice, directly emailed all the authors. After six months, noone other than myself had posted a comment agreeing. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [PEAR-BUG] Req #14853 [Bgs->Opn]: Change license from php to (new) bsd From: helgith@gmail.com To: craig@constantine.name, pear-bugs@lists.php.net Date: Fri Apr 3 20:53:46 2009
