The existing code does not break. Installing the package version on a
lower PHP than minimum is just not possible and will be hindered by the
PEAR installer. I do not know how PEAR handles freshly installing the
package on a lower php version than the latest stable one requires. We
should find that out. Any takers?
Steps:
- 2 package versions:
-- 1.0.0 with php 5.2 dep
-- 1.1.0 with php 5.3 dep
- put the first on a channel server
- install the package on 5.2
- put 1.1.0 on the channel server
- try to upgrade the package with 5.2, this should fail
- uninstall the package
- try to install the package (without specifying the version) on 5.2.
this could either fail or install 1.0.0

MDB3 requires class renames all over the code, which requires client
code changes.
