It came to a point that it hardly needs any maintenance because it provides all the basic services that I need. The class has now almost 13.000 users and it has been time since anybody made a feature request. So, I think it is pretty much done.
Certainly, but did you have many contributors ? or do you work alone on
Oh, yes, more than I could handle. I still owe an apology to all those that mailed me about it and I could not find time to reply properly. Many people contributed with code, but most contributed with suggestions for improvements that often turned into features that are available today. That is why the class addresses most of the people real needs.
this class ? I try it and yes it works, but damned, I prefer re write 10 others classes rather than trying to find something in it. Maintenance is a must. And when I read a "too much modular" lib in pear and see a clean source and short methods, what should I say ? thank's guys. In a pure estetic way or conceptual way, it s impossible to work with your classe.
Nor I was expecting you to use my class. My point is that my class works in a way that suits the needs of much more than one individual. It comes with built-in validation types that address the most common needs and allows you to add custom validation types without having to change anything in the class. Your objection regarding maintenance is completely justified. The class file has 111 CVS revisions and the last one was made on 23/9/2001 (8 months ago). This means that the class is pretty much done. There are no new features to add or bugs to fix. This is solid code. No wonder why it has been number 1 top downloaded class, not to speak of the number of books for which I lost the count of signing authorizations to have the class code shipped in.
The main types of validation are too trivial to compensate the overhead of putting them in separate classes.
Anyway this is a test, checking out if we can get something nice and usefull. Maybe can you help us to create a usefull data validation module ? ( understood not only forms validation or trivial regexp) ?
This is very odd. In the whole thread all you did was to refuse my explanations why it does not pay to put trivial validation types in separate classes. Then you b*tch because I mention my forms validation class that is made available in the PHP Classes site. Then you still make fun of my serious comments to your messages as if you are not interested that I share my long experience in the subject. In the end you still expect me to help you do something for you? Are you kidding me? Do you think you are doing me a favour to let me help you? Get a grip. Maybe you just need to grow up and become mature enough to respect people that are trying to contribute with knowledge that you seem too close minded to accept. It is already bad enough that you PEAR people keep refusing developers attempts to contribute with code. This "I know it better (although I have no past experience)" attitude of yours only ruins the credibility of PEAR project and compromise its chances to grow as the PHP community needs. If this is not what you want, rethink your posture because that is the image that you are passing to people that come and go here. -- Regards, Manuel Lemos
