Hm, I figured it out. What was puzzling me was that that message seemed to match one thrown in a method somewhere in Pear, but turned out to be caused by unknown options in the shebang, IOW, coming from the PHP itself. Patch attached, but note that I don't know if this is actually the preferred fix.
