I think that this proposal is resonable, although it will break
backwards compatibility and will require us to react according to the
current operating platform at runtime.
If we're going to have to observe the operating system in any
solution, we may as well special-case those contants for the Windows
case and retain the existing non-Windows functionality.
We may even be able to achieve this result simply by reordering the
switch statement .
