It does open a question about these types of 'Network services'
Since we already have Net_Geo (which is really a net service, rather than a Network Protocol, and alot of the Net_* are not protocols but tools), so it would follow that we would end up with
Net_WeatherMetar or Net_Weather_Metar
or we could start another tract and start
Net_Service_Geo
Net_Service_Weather_Metar
Net_Protocol_NNTP
Net_Protocol_SMTP
Net_Tool_CheckIPv4
Net_Socket
....
in PHP5, I guess this helps reduce the issues with long names..
use "Net::Service::Weather";
$test = new Metar;
I couldnt find any definitive direction (in the manual) on whether PEAR intended to develop a deep or shallow tree structure. Although historically we have been moving towards a more shallow tree..
On a comparitive level, CPAN has gone for a realivly flat structure, wheras Java as gone for a far deeper tree..
Personally I would prefer the deeper tree (cause I like typing alot) - but I'm not that bothered :)

Thanks for the clarification, In fact it is parser and retrieval, there are two modes of retrieval, httpd and local, local retrieval means the metar is somewere on the filesystem (if you have a cron to update selected metars), and httpd (using NET_SOCKET). It is possible to extend it further (ftp). As for the name I thought about Net_Metar but all other classes (usin Net_) have somthing to do with networking, the only thing network related about this class is that in some cases it uses the network to retrieve the data. IMHO Net_Weather is not elligible, but if the name Weather_Metar does not appeal to you am open to suggestions Yavo ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ondrej Jombik" <nepto@pobox.sk> To: <pear-dev@lists.php.net> Sent: Tuesday, August 27, 2002 10:59 PM Subject: RE: [PEAR-DEV] Class Proposal Weather_Metar____________________________________________________________________________Maxim, 21:57:41 27. august 2002 (utorok)Greetings.AFAIK metars are not possesion of airports but National Weather Service (http://weather.noaa.gov/). Metars are used mostly for air navigation and IMHO it is some kind of obligation to produce them. I don't understand if proposed class is only Metar-parser or it is also Metar-retrieval. If the second one, it is fact that network socket connection is used, so name Net_Weather is eligible too. =Nepto=current (within a few hours) weather conditions for Bremen GermanyDo airports allow the free commercial use of this data?Ondrej 'Nepto' Jombik, http://www.nepto.sk/nepto@atomicpile.sk-- PEAR Development Mailing List (http://pear.php.net/) To unsubscribe, visit: http://www.php.net/unsub.php
