Huh? the output from transforming the DocBook source
is XHTML (which is the current spec from W3C btw).
Also HTML (which has more SGML roots rather than XML
root), does not have problems w/ the stuff you
mentioned, just look at the original HTML specs
(www.w3.org), and the SGML specs if you have lots of
free time.
Again, a problem w/ a faulty web browser's rendering
could be worked around by whoever is interested in
doing so and needs that functionality. Just modify the
DSSSL or XSL used and then send them to the list (or
the DocBook maintainers). This is open
source/documentation after all.

What problem? the EOL or the incorrect rendering of
valid HTML/XML? all of the above and more)? I believe
you that this happens, cannot confirm as I fortunately
do not use Windows at work or at home (scientific
computing dictates stable OSes). Also I believe that
you should complain to the programmers who wrote that
faulty piece of software, easy and more permanent
solution.
As for the "holy" bit, nahh, don't want to end up
crucified ;-). I am just a crazy scientist that
kludges its way through programming ;-)
