Ah now we are getting closer to the real thing :-) Well as I said in a previous mail in the next version of LiveUser we will probably storing of arbitrary user related data for each given user through the admin API and iirc we already support fetching if arbitrary data from the user table in the client part. However it may be a bit clumsy to use the admin API if you plan to edit this data frequently. In LiveUser its more meant to be a way to store some additional information like email, icq number that doesnt change frequently. For all other needs we will not provide the functionality as this goes beyond the scope of the package. Dunno if this package may be what you are looking for: http://pear.php.net/package/Auth_PrefManagerNo this is not so obvious. The concept of session is that its not permanent at all.OK, lets say session is one thing. That might change. Okay. Sorry, lack of accuracy on my side. Better say "user variables", certain settings which the user might change during a session, but which should be restored the user logs in next time.
There are session handlers which also store in the database, but anyways this is a different topic since you are not talking about session variables :-) regards, Lukas Smith PS: as you can see from all the needless emails it is really important to make sure you use the terms correctly. We could have saved us a fair number of mails if you wouldnt have called them "session variables". smith@backendmedia.com _______________________________ BackendMedia www.backendmedia.com berlin@backendmedia.com Linn Zwoch Smith GbR Pariser Str. 44 D-10707 Berlin Tel +49 30 83 22 50 00 Fax +49 30 83 22 50 07I recently switched to php4 sessions from using my own custom session container similar to the one in phplib. You can achieve similar things with php4 sessions however. You can register customer session handlers which can store into the db and let you customize garbage collection.Fine for session variables. User variables you might want to store in a DB.
