Why don't u just freeze the values?
$el=$form->getElement('elementname');
$el->freeze();
This way you get exactly what you want ... (a hidden element and a
static one)
I think static is designed to create independant html without any
function (at least that's how I use it). static goes (not like 'html')
through the standard template engines ...
